Standard Workshop Series Overview

Pre Trip Workshops

Workshop 1 Volunteerism, Community Development, and Global Citizenship

  • 2 hours after school or during school hours
  • Participants: Stratosphere, students and teachers
  • Students will learn about what it means to volunteer, what their role is in the community, what good community development is, and what it means to be a global citizen.
  • Take home: Students will prepare a fundraising idea to discuss in the next workshop.

Workshop 2 Fundraising

  • 2 hours after school or during school hours
  • Participants: Stratosphere, students and teachers
  • Students will learn what kind of fundraising works best, why we fundraise to raise awareness, and will plan a fundraising event or events.
  • Take home: Students are to focus on the fundraising event preparations.

Workshop 3 Intercultural Communication

  • 2 hours after school or during school hours
  • Participants: Stratosphere, students and teachers
  • Students will learn how to recognize cultural differences, how to adapt to a new culture, and how to work with people from a different culture.
  • Take home: Students are to think about how they would like to document their trip.

Workshop 4 Trip Planning

  • 2 hours after school or during school hours
  • Participants: Stratosphere, students and teachers
  • Students will plan how they will document the trip and prepare for debriefs. Students will also discuss culture shock and common challenges.
  • Take home: Students are to finalize their trip documenting plans.

Post Trip Workshops

Workshop 5 Community Development and Global Citizenship Debrief

  • 2 hours after school or during school hours
  • Participants: Stratosphere, students and teachers
  • Students will debrief the trip (based on previous work in Workshops 1 and 4).

Optional workshops are available in:

  • Photography for travel
  • Global Citizenship in the classroom (teacher workshop)
  • Leading a volunteer trip overseas (teacher and chaperone workshop)

Workshop Pricing

  • Total series: $2000 for 10 students, $50 for each additional student
  • Individual workshops: $400 per workshop for 10 students, $10 for each additional student

Structure

  • Stratosphere will come to schools in the Lower Mainland
  • Workshops can be combined for further distances (British Columbia, Washington State)
  • Workshops available via skype
  • Please talk to Stratosphere about availability of workshops outside of the area mentioned above.
